Call for the Establishment of the Youth Advisory Group (YAG)

The United Nations in Georgia is announcing a call for applications to establish the Youth Advisory Group (YAG).

The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is a group of youth leaders in Georgia established by the United Nations in Georgia to provide strategic advice to the UN Resident Coordinator and to the UN Country Team (UNCT) on youth-related priorities, ensuring the perspectives of diverse young people are integrated into programming, policy dialogue and advocacy in Georgia, in coordination with the UN Theme Group on Youth.

The YAG will make efforts to:

a) Provide strategic advice to the UNCT and the Resident Coordinator on issues that affect youth and the UN`s engagement with youth.
b) Strengthen linkages between the UN and youth-led organizations and networks.
c) Ensure youth perspectives are integrated into UN programming, policy dialogue, and advocacy work.
d) Support implementation of Youth 2030 in Georgia.

Who We Are Looking For:

** Age Requirement: Candidates must be aged between 14 and 25 years old at the time of appointment.
** Residence: Georgia residents, representing all regions of Georgia, including rural areas.
** Relevant Experience and Commitment to Youth Empowerment: Candidates should have a demonstrated track record in youth activism, youth work, youth empowerment, youth policy, youth advocacy, or similar areas, with at least two years of experience.
** Active Participation in Youth Campaigns: Candidates should have demonstrated enthusiasm for and be actively involved in activities and initiatives targeting youth individually and/or in groups- this includes but is not limited to membership to organizations or structures that represent or associate young people, such as local youth councils, student councils, youth clubs, or other types of youth organizations or organizations for youth. Candidates working on youth issues as part of think tanks, media, educational, or research institutions are also encouraged to apply.

Desired representation includes members from:

** Youth-led organizations and networks
** Marginalized and vulnerable groups
** Students and academic representatives
** Young activists and community mobilizers
** Youth engaged in fields such as: a) education b) gender equality c) human rights; d) peacebuilding/Youth, Peace and Security Agenda e) innovation and digital transformation, f) health and wellbeing g) civic space and governance, h) climate action
** Network Building: Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain networks within the youth community and beyond.
** Leadership Experience: Leadership experience in youth associations or activist work is desirable.
** Understanding of Public Governance in Georgia: A solid understanding of the country`s public governance system, including its challenges and opportunities, to ensure that proposals made to the UN and, by extension, to the government, are realistic and implementable.
** Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in Georgian language and preferably in English, to effectively articulate the board`s work and engage with a broad range of stakeholders.
** Advisory/Analytical Skills: Strong advisory and analytical skills are desirable, enabling the member to critically evaluate policies, programs, and initiatives, and provide constructive feedback and recommendations to the United Nations in Georgia.
** Diverse Representation and Inclusion of Marginalized Groups: Candidates should reflect the diverse socio-cultural, ethnic, and geographical makeup of Georgia, ensuring gender balance and representation of marginalized and minority groups. YAG welcomes young women, representatives of ethnic minorities (Armenian, Azerbaijani), youth in conflict-affected communities, youth of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity, IDPs, asylum-seekers, refugees, stateless persons and persons with disabilities.
** Participation Expectations: The YAG will meet on a quarterly basis. Additional thematic meetings may be convened by UN agencies. Meetings may be virtual or in-person, depending on context. Members are expected to:
1. attend at least 70% of meetings
2. actively contribute to discussions and activities
3. engage with peers to collect input for UN consultations

Role of the UN Youth Advisory Group (YAG)

** Provide structured input into the design, implementation, and review of UN policies, strategies, and programmes affecting young people.
** Track follow-up on youth recommendations and support reporting on how youth inputs have informed UN actions.
** Promote ethical, safe, and meaningful youth participation, including safeguarding and do-no-harm principles.
** Support peer-to-peer learning by sharing tools, good practices, and lessons learned on youth engagement.
** Participate in meetings, working groups, and agreed deliverables of the UN Thematic Group on Youth as needed.
** Advise the UN on emerging youth priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
** Contribute to UN advocacy campaigns, thematic days, and public communication initiatives.
** Serve as a bridge between the UN and diverse youth communities and organizations (urban/rural, young women, NEETs, minority groups, internally displaced youth, asylum-seeker, refugee and stateless youth, young persons with disabilities, youth with different socio-economic backgrounds).
** Mobilize peers and networks to participate in consultations, surveys, and dialogues organized by the UN.
** Monitor and provide feedback on the inclusiveness of UN youth engagement initiatives.
** Offer recommendations on how the UN can expand equitable access to opportunities for young people.
** Participate in UN-led learning sessions, workshops, and inter-agency activities.

The members of the YAG will serve for a term of one year, renewable once.

Membership in YAG is voluntary and without compensation. Membership in YAG does not foresee any out-of-pocket expenses for members for costs related to the work of YAG and its participation in planned events.
