The UNFPA "Global Programme to Prevent Son Preference and Undervaluing of Girls" is funded by the EU and is implemented in six programme countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Viet Nam, and by an inter-regional mechanism. The programme is cycle is three years.

The implementation of the programme will be undertaken in close collaboration with governments and civil society in the six programme countries. The inter-regional mechanism will support the implementation of tasks at the country level, mainly through providing technical assistance in research, advocacy and capacity development.

The activities and targets to be reached by the programme countries are specified in the work plans for the respective programme countries. The Project Officer will work for the UNFPA Georgia Country Office, and in close collaboration with the government, national implementing partners and other stakeholders and partners as needed to implement the activities and achieved the targets listed in the UNFPA work plan for country Georgia. The consultant will report to the Assistant Representative.

The programme is coordinated by the Gender Human Rights and Culture Branch, Technical Division at UNFPA HQ, in close collaboration with the Regional Offices in Asia-Pacific (ASRO), and Eastern-Europe and Central Asia (EECARO), as well as the UNFPA Country Offices in the six programme countries.
