WWF Caucasus Programme Office (WWF-Caucasus) Is pleased to announce an opening for the position of Regional Forest and Protected Areas Officer .

Location: Tbilisi, Georgia

General position scope: To contribute to forestry programmes and activities of WWF in the Caucasus region and to global Forest Practice goals and objectives of WWF.

Works with relevant staff of: the WWF Caucasus Programme, i.e. WWF-Caucasus, WWF Armenia Branch and WWF Azerbaijan Branch; main regional partners – WWF-Russia and WWF-Turkey; main WWF network supporters – WWF-Germany, WWF-Switzerland, WWF International, etc.; WWF network generally, particularly WWF Global Forest Practice and WWF European Policy Office; as well as relevant Governmental institutions, academia, NGO sector, local communities and donors.

Reports to: Conservation Director of WWF-Caucasus.

Responsibilities:

** Manage, coordinate and monitor implementation of WWF-Caucasus existing forest programme.
** Ensure alignment of the forest programme with existing wider WWF frameworks, strategies and programmes, both internationally and regionally; and particularly contribute to the goals and objectives of WWF Global Forest Practice, be actively involved in relevant events and activities.
** Represent the interests and positions of WWF to external stakeholders and interest groups, including authorities responsible for forests and protected areas.
** Generate new, innovative ideas and proposals for development of the forest programme.
** Focus on and lead the forest policy work of WWF-Caucasus, establish and maintain close partnership with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations, initiatives and programmes.
** Coordinate regional and take part in coordination of international projects on forest conservation (including protected areas) and sustainable management as required.
** Support fundraising activities in the field of forests and protected areas of WWF Caucasus programme.
** Prepare relevant reports, including forest parts of regular WWF Caucasus Programme Technical Report and reporting on Performance indicators (KPIs);
** Together with communication officer, prepare and distribute communication and awareness raising materials.
** Coordinate organization of workshops, seminars, training courses, exchange study tours, other transboundary and regional events, etc. within the framework of WWF-Caucasus forest programme as required.
** Actively communicate with WWF-Caucasus other programmes and teams for optimizing outcomes through strengthening synergies.

Qualifications:

** Strong understanding of importance of biodiversity in general and the Caucasus biodiversity in particular, threats and challenges facing to it.
** Passionate about nature conservation, sustainable resource use and community outreach.
** Considerable knowledge in sustainable forest management and protected areas field.
** Capability to stretch goals, plans, using best judgment and to take the responsibility for planning to and delivering on outcomes.
** Excellent communication and presentation skills.
** Capability to build collaborative relationships through the understanding and development of other’s and own ideas.
** Encouraging and seeking out innovative solutions and bringing people on a journey constructively and empathetically.
** Making the right judgments based on financial and resource availability.

Experience and language skills:

** Master degree in the field of Environment.
** At least 5 years working experience in the field of forest conservation and management and/or protected area (or similar/related fields).
** At least 2 years working experience on managerial position;
** Experience and aptitude working with Governmental institutions, NGO sector, local communities and donors.
** Experience in programme/project management;
** Experience in event organization;

Language requirements:

** English – fluent in speaking and writing;
** Georgian – good in speaking and writing;
** Russian – good in speaking and writing;
** Basic Armenian and/or Azeri a plus.
